Around 100 protesters joined an Anti-Marcos protest in Forbes Park on Sunday night, October 12, led by Cavite 4th District Representative Kiko Barzaga, calling for accountability over alleged corruption in the government.
In a report by DZRH News Reporter Jecelle Ricaforte in Damdaming Bayan, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) reported that the protest remained generally peaceful, with officers maintaining maximum tolerance throughout the demonstration.
The NCRPO said it has already learned its lesson following the tense anti-corruption rallies held in Manila on September 21.
Barzaga, in his address, called on Filipinos to continue demanding accountability from what he described as a “detached and corrupt political system.”
“We have to protect the interests of the Filipino people over the interests of corrupt politicians,” Barzaga said during his speech.
More nationwide protest -- Bayan
Meanwhile, Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) announced a series of nationwide anti-corruption protests in the coming weeks. The coalition said the demonstrations would be organized by groups behind the “Baha sa Luneta” rally last September 21.
Youth organizations are expected to lead a protest march to Mendiola on October 17, while peasant groups plan to hold a mobilization at Liwasang Bonifacio on October 21.
Bayan said the coordinated protests aim to “sustain public pressure for transparency and accountability” in light of the ongoing investigations into alleged government anomalies.
