The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) is set to file multiple charges against individuals involved in violent incidents during an anti-corruption rally on Sunday, September 21

In a report by Jecelle Ricafort, authorities arrested 102 protesters after the demonstration, which began peacefully in areas such as EDSA and Luneta but erupted into chaos at Mendiola. There, protesters reportedly attacked police officers with stones and other objects, prompting swift police intervention.

According to NCRPO Chief Major Gen. Anthony Aberin, several of those detained received medical attention, including minors who are now under investigation by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

The arrested individuals will face multiple charges including direct assault, physical injuries, arson, and other offenses based on the evidence we have gathered.

The police are also identifying the organizers and leaders responsible for inciting the violence.

A total of 131 police officers were injured during the protest; while some sustained serious injuries, all are currently stable and continuing to receive medical care.

Aberin emphasized that most protests across Metro Manila proceeded peacefully and orderly. However, in Mendiola, violence broke out as demonstrators set motorcycles on fire and damaged property, including a motel in Recto.

Aberin also said that the police respect every Filipino’s right to assemble and express their views peacefully. But protests must be conducted responsibly and within the law.

He further said that he will not tolerate any form of violence or criminality.

Authorities are continuing their investigation and preparing formal charges against the arrested protesters.
