More than 100 persons deprived of liberty (PDL) in the Manila City Jail were released today, Dec. 8.

According to Boy Gonzales' report on MBC Network News, Manila City Jail Male Dorm Supt. Lino Soriano said that 130 PDLs was freed in anticipation of the upcoming holiday under Project Layang Inaasam sa Napapanahong Okasyon (LINO).

Most of inmates are those who have dismissed cases and served their sentences under the good conduct time allowance (GCTA) and teaching, study, and mentoring (TASTM) programs.

GCTA is a privilege granted to a prisoner, whether incarcerated or found guilty by final judgment, that allows for a reduced prison sentence or sentence service as a reward for good behavior or exemplary behavior.

Meanwhile, Bureau of Corrections Director Gregorio Catapang also proposed the transfer of some Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) inmates to BuCor.

According to the BJMP, about 3,000 to 5,000 prisoners are expected to be released this month.

Based on the jail's record from January 2023, there are more than 5,500 women and men in prison.
