The Metro Manila mayors have decided to prohibit outdoor exercises during the two-week implementation of enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in the capital region amid the threat of the virulent Delta COVID-19 variant.
The order was released on Monday afternoon through MMDA Resolution No. 21-17, series of 2021, signed by the 17 NCR mayors and Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chair Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos Jr.
“Nagpasa rin kami ng resolusyon ngayon lang hapon na ultimo paglabas ng bahay maski mag-exercise ay bawal na po sapagkat importante for the next two weeks mapangalagaan ang ating mga taga-Metro Manila,” Abalos said during the taped weekly address of PResident Rodrigo Duterte on Monday.

According to the resolution, the decision was made following the "steady rise" of COVID-19 cases in the National Capital Region (NCR), including confirmed cases of the highly transmissible Delta variant.
While the MMC recognizes the need for exercise – especially to promote and maintain physical, mental, and emotional health – staying at home is necessary in order to combat the further spread of the viral illness.
“The Council is also mindful of the fact that staying at home or remaining indoor is one of the best protection against the pandemic during the ECQ,” the resolution read.
As of Monday, the Philippines has logged 1,667,714 cases, of which 573,136 are from NCR.
