

The Oscars created a new annual award for “Best Stunt Design” for its 100th ceremony in 2028.
In a press release on Thursday, April 10 (US Time), the Academy announced that its Board of Governors from the Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will add a competitive Academy Award for Achievement in Stunt Design, for films released in 2027.
“Since the early days of cinema, stunt design has been an integral part of filmmaking,” said Academy CEO Bill Kramer and Academy President Janet Yang. “We are proud to honor the innovative work of these technical and creative artists, and we congratulate them for their commitment and dedication in reaching this momentous occasion.”
The category rules for eligibility and voting for the award will be announced in 2027, along with the 100th Academy Awards rules. Meanwhile, the specifics for the award’s presentation shall be determined by the Academy’s Board of Governors and executive leadership at a later date.
According to the Academy, over 100 stunt professionals are part of the Academy’s Production and Technology branch.

In 2024, the Oscars added the Achievement in Casting for the 98th Academy Awards for films released in 2025.
