The Manila City Council has officially passed an ordinance declaring August 4 as Carlos Yulo Day, honoring the achievements of the renowned gymnast.
Manila City Vice Mayor Yul Servo announced the ordinance, highlighting that Carlos Yulo Day is a tribute to the pride and honor that Yulo has brought to the city.
"Ikaapat ng Agosto bilang araw ni Carlos Yulo sa Lungsod ng Maynila at nagbibigay ng direktiba sa lahat ng mga kagawaran ng pamahalaang lokal na magsagawa ng mga programa at bilang paggunita sa unang Manilenyo na nakapanalo ng dalawang gintong medalya sa Paris 2024 Olympic games," Servo stated.
(August 4 is now Carlos Yulo Day in the City of Manila, and all local government departments are directed to organize programs in commemoration of the first Manileño to win two gold medals at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.)
Manila City Mayor Honey Lacuna earlier noted that Carlos Yulo Day will not be a non-working holiday, but will be the city’s way of commemorating the "son of Manila."
Yulo secured his first-ever Olympic gold medal on August 4, 2024 in the men's artistic gymnastics floor exercise event at the Paris 2024 Olympics. He later won a second gold medal in the vault event.
Born and raised in San Andres, Manila, Yulo began his gymnastics training in the same community, rising to international prominence and bringing pride to his hometown.
The city government previously awarded Yulo a cash reward of PHP 2 million.
