After reopening discussions on banning deployment in Kuwait, Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Secretary Susan Ople said she would be in favor of labor diplomacy to resolve concerns and issues.
"We appreciate the good intentions behind the calls to impose a deployment ban to Kuwait. But I have always believed in social dialogue as the all-important first step in resolving labor migration concerns," the DMW secretary said on Thursday.
Ople clarified that choosing a labor agreement is not insensitive and will "add more safeguards and ensure that justice is pursued on behalf of Jollibee and her family".
Another talk of a deployment ban was opened after the killing of Jullebee Ranara, 35, whose corpse was found on Salami road, Kuwait on Jan 22.
The DMW secretary recognized how the Kuwaiti government immediately arrested the 17-year-old son of Ranara’s employer who confessed to being the suspect behind the crime.
“There is a working, productive relationship between the Philippines and Kuwait that can be further enhanced not by imposing a deployment ban, but by revisiting the existing Bilateral Labor Agreement (BLA),” Ople added.
The remains of Ranara will be brought home on Friday night, January 27.
