QCinema on Tuesday, Oct. 24, revealed the opening and closing films for its 11th International Film Festival.

“For our 11th edition, our Opening Film is the Golden Lion winner in this year’s prestigious Venice Film Festival - Poor Things,” its caption read.

The opening film stars Emma Stone set in Victorian-era London following a resurrected woman who gains autonomy and explores the society around her.

“Director Lanthimos is no stranger to QCinema where his Killing of a Sacred Deer had its Asian premiere in 2018 [...] QCinema elevates the stakes this time with Poor Things and in this particular era, its feminist theme of self-discovery & liberation is indeed timely,” the caption further read.

For the closing film, QCinema revealed Anthony Chen’s The Breaking Ice, which was Singapore’s official entry to the Oscars 2024.

“The Generation Z drama follows the relationships of three tourists over a snowy city. Director Anthony Chen had also been part of our festival with his 2018 film, The Wet Season, as QCinema’s closing film that year,” the caption read.

The film festival will be held in selected cinemas around Quezon City from November 17 to 25, 2023.
