Marikina Mayor Marcelino Teodoro confirmed on Sunday that the opening ceremonies for the Palarong Pambansa will push through on Monday despite the bad weather.
However, Teodoro mentioned that the closing ceremony of the annual national sporting event slated for August 5 maybe delayed.
The Marikina Mayor has declared that classes in Marikina's public schools are canceled but private schools may continue to provide regular classes.
According to Teodoro, city government departments will also observe a non-working day to allow personnel to attend the event.
Meanwhile, as part of precautionary measures, 298 families have been transported to several evacuation facilities in Marikina since yesterday.
Teodoro stated that because there are so many Palarong Pambansa delegates in the city, several evacuation shelters have been shifted to accommodate the event.
Residents of H. Bautista Elementary School was relocated to Marikina's Pamantasan ng Lungsod.
Around 9 p.m., the water level in the Marikina River hit 16.7 meters on Saturday as a result of heavy rain caused by the southwest monsoon, or habagat, in Rizal's neighboring mountain areas.
The city felt the consequences of upstream weather conditions, which caused the river's water level to rise.
