The Pasay City Police have arrested one of the suspects involved in the shooting and killing of a 39-year old Manila police officer along Taft Avenue corner Primero de Mayo street in Barangay 90, Pasay City on Saturday, August 23.
According to the report by RH Jecelle Ricafor, Pasay City Police Chief Col. Joselito de Sesto said in DZRH, the suspect, identified as alias “Bayona,” was nabbed in Dasmariñas, Cavite.
Bayona was said to be the driver of the motorcycle used by the assailants during the attack.
Authorities have already identified the gunman who shot Police Staff Sergeant Jomar Caliguiran and are now conducting a manhunt operation to track him down.
De Sesto said the motive behind the crime was robbery. The suspects reportedly tried to snatch the gold necklace of the victim, but when he resisted, they shot him multiple times.
Investigators also believe the same suspects could be behind another robbery and shooting incident involving an intelligence officer of the Philippine National Police–Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) in Makati City earlier this month.
In that case, the assailants also stole the victim’s necklace and cellphone.
