Bobi, the Portuguese purebred Rafeiro do Alentejo which is the title holder of "oldest dog ever", passed away in a hospital last week

American veterinarian Karen Becker announced Bobi's passing in a Facebook post on Monday, Oct. 23.

"Is there ever enough time? I think not. Last night, this sweet boy earned his wings. Despite outliving every dog in history, his 11,478 days on earth would never be enough, for those who loved him," she captioned.

The veterinarian quoted Bobi's owner Leonel Costa, who had said that "good nutrition, constant contact with nature, freedom to discover his environment, consistent veterinary care, and love" was the recipe for his beloved pet's "exceptionally long life."

"Godspeed, Bobi…you’ve taught the world all you were meant to teach," Becker furthered.

In February, Guinness World Records bestowed the "oldest dog ever" and "oldest dog living" titles to Bobi.

According to the British reference book, the Veterinary Medical Service of the Municipality of Leiria confirmed that Bobi was born in May 1992.

In May this year, Bobi celebrated his 31st birthday at their home in the rural village of Conqueiros, in Leiria, Portugal.

Costa threw a "traditional" birthday party that was attended by 100 guests including journalists and people from various countries.

Run free, Bobi!
