Eight municipalities in Cavite were placed under the state of calamity following the recent oil spill from the sunken oil tanker MT Terra Nova in Bataan, that reached the waters of the province of Cavite.
In an interview with DZRH, Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla confirmed that several municipalities were declared under the state of calamity including Bacoor, Kawit, Noveleta, Rosario, Tanza, Naic, Maragondon, and Ternate.
Additionally, the Local Government Units (LGUs) declared 'no catch zone' for all shellfish consisting of tahong, alimasag, alimango, and halaan within the vicinity.
"The Cavite Government is currently meeting for the immediate distribution of relief goods for the 25,000 affected fisherfolks in Cavite," Remulla said in a post in his X's account.
The governor also mentioned that they haven't seen the need to impose evacuation on affected residents of the oil spill just yet.
Previously on Monday, the Pambansang Lakas ng Kilusang Mamamalakaya ng Pilipinas (PAMALAKAYA) reported that the oil spill has already reached the shorelines of Tanza, Cavite.
