The management of fast food Chinese restaurant Chowking Philippines on Sunday, Nov. 26, said it asked one of its branch stores in Davao to place the reported outside-of-store order taking "on hold" following the backlash on social media.

In an official statement posted on its Facebook page, Chowking Philippines management said it had "received feedback from a concerned customer" in regards with the outside-of-store order taking.

"We assure our customers and the public that we are treating this matter seriously. As such, we have asked the store to place the said activity on hold while the guidelines to ensure compliance with our standards are undergoing review," it said.

"Further, the concerned team member continues to be a valued member of the store," the management added.

The Chowking Philippines management made certain that it upholds business ethical standards and that it prioritizes the well-being of its team members.

On Saturday, Nov. 25, a user named Maria Cabral uploaded the video on the social media platform TikTok, narrating how Chowking Philippines is treating fast food servers.

Cabral presented Shella, a Chowking crew from SM City Davao, who was seen walking around the streets of Ecoland to find potential customers and get their orders.

When asked by a customer how the orders would be delivered, Shella said: "I'll go back there and then I'll deliver it again here. I can ride a jeep using my own money."

The Chowking crew said the store has no budget for their transportation expenses.

"Our store is doing slow and sales are small. As a service crew, we need to find a way to grow our sales," Shella explained.

After successfully delivering the customer's orders, the Chowking crew shared that she reached ₱2,000 out of the ₱6,000 quota mandated by their store manager.

The TikTok video went viral across social media platforms, with many users condemning what they believed as Chowking's unjust labor practices and dehumanizing treatment to its service crews.

"This might be happening to other food chains as well. This needs to be addressed kasi ang mga crew talaga ang kawawa. They don't deserve this kind of treatment po as workers," user ZHel said in an X (formerly Twitter) post.

"Infuriating how these big companies treat their employees. They couldn't even cover the transportation allowances? I hope definitive action will be taken to INCREASE the employees' salaries and UPHOLD their labor rights. This practice should be stopped," user Kevin Manalo stressed.

"Chowking is[']nt a small time eatery to do this kind of marketing, they're part of one of the biggest corps in the PH, even eateries don't do this to their employees, what a shame really. Door to door isn't a thing anymore coz socmed has wider reach," user Annz said.
