In response to the water and sanitation challenges faced by evacuation centers in Albay due to the unrest of Mayon Volcano, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) took action by activating the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) subcluster.
The OCD is also collaborating with the Department of Health (DOH) to address the situation.
Assistant Secretary Bernardo Rafaelito "Raffy" Alejandro IV stated that the OCD is awaiting data from the eight affected local government units (LGUs) to determine the appropriate support and interventions required to address the identified gaps and meet the needs of the affected families.
"We will do the cluster approach and closely coordinate with concerned agencies to address these identified gaps," he also emphasized.
Furthermore, the OCD has prepared filtration units to accommodate additional families being evacuated to the centers.
To secure funding support, Albay Governor Edcel Greco Lagman directed the Albay Public Safety and Emergency Management Office to consolidate the data for submission to national agencies.
In its latest 24-hour observation bulletin issued at 8 AM, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported that the summit of the Mayon Volcano continues to effuse lava down its slopes at a very slow rate.
