Filipino pole vaulter EJ Obiena snagged a silver medal on Sunday, September 17, at the Prefontaine Classic, the final meet of the 2023 Diamond League, in Eugene, Oregon, United States.

Obiena cleared 5.82 meters to finish behind Swedish-American pole vaulter Armand Duplantis who set a new world record after clearing 6.23 meters.

The Asian-record holder tried to set a new personal best and clear 6.02 meters but failed in his three attempts.

Sam Kendricks of the United States cleared 5.72 meters to win the bronze medal.

Obiena, who currently ranks second in the world, will compete in the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.
