The National Privacy Commission (NPC) informed the public that they will conduct an independent investigation into alleged unauthorized transactions on GCash accounts that resulted in losses for some users.

"This investigation will verify the absence of a personal data breach, ensuring transparency and accountability in the protection of GCash users' personal information," NPC said in an offical statement on Wednesday.

NPC stated that they received a message from GCash on November 11, assuring that no data or personal information was compromised in the recent incident.

The agency affirmed its commitment to its mandate, stating it will carry out the investigation to uphold the provisions of the Data Privacy Act of 2012 (DPA).

Moreover, the NPC clarified that its jurisdiction is dedicated to the protection of personal information, in line with the DPA.

Users affected by the GCash incident are urged to contact the relevant financial regulatory agency for concerns related to the financial transactions involved.

"We urge individuals who may have been affected by this incident to reach out to the NPC through [email protected] and provide relevant information to assist with our investigation," NPC said in closing.

Meanwhile, GCash reported on Sunday that they had completed the necessary adjustments to the wallets of affected users.
