Norwegian national drowns at Batangas resort amid Egay onslaught

A 42-year-old Norwegian national drowned while swimming at a beach resort in Brgy. Sta. Ana Calatagan, Batangas, during the peak of Typhoon on Tuesday, July 25.

According to Philippine National Police (PNP) - Calatagan chief Emil Mendoza, the two foreigners were swept away by the strong sea waves.

The Norwegians were identified as Gorgan Hagesater and Christian Atle Hanse, 43 years old.

Hanse was able to cling to a life ring buoy while Hagesater was dragged to a deep area of the sea.

After the two-hour search and rescue operation, a dead body was recovered.

Meanwhile, authorities have not yet identified if the two foreigners, who were said to be residents of Pasig, were in the country as tourists.
