PBA player John Amores, together with his brother, surrendered to authorities Thursday morning after being involved in a shooting incident with a fellow basketball player in Lumban, Laguna, on the afternoon of September 25.
In a CCTV video from Lumban PNP, Amores is seen riding a motorcycle driven by his 20-year-old brother. He briefly got off and fired his weapon.
The shooting reportedly stemmed from a heated exchange between Amores and the victim after they played basketball in Barangay Salac, still in Lumban, Laguna.
In an exclusive interview with RH Eric Dastas on Thursday, PMaj. Bob Louis Ordiz, chief of the Lumban Municipal Police Station, confirmed the shooting incident involving Amores.
He stated that there was a brief altercation during the basketball game, but the two parties were eventually separated. However, they later challenged each other to a fist fight again.
"Doon nga po sila along the national highway of Lumban, doon po sila nagpang-abot ulit," said Ordiz.
Ordiz reported that the victim was not injured and that no one else in the vicinity was affected by the shooting incident, which is why the charge filed against the suspect is attempted murder.
Authorities are working to trace the origin of the firearm used by Amores, who mentioned during his surrender that he had disposed of it.
Amores and his brother are currently in the custody of the Lumban Police at their custodial facility.
