Nora Aunor, the “Superstar” and National Artist of the Philippines for Film and Broadcast Arts, was finally laid to rest on Monday at the Libingan ng mga Bayani in Taguig City.
As reported by RH Jecelle Ricafort, more than a thousand devoted supporters ignored the sweltering heat to pay their final respects and witness the burial in person.
In recognition of her legacy, Nora Aunor was accorded full military honors and a 21-gun salute during her state funeral, following the arrival honors and tribute program held at the Metropolitan Theater.
She was laid to rest in Section 13, a resting place shared by other National Artists and National Scientists, honoring her place among the country's most distinguished figures.
Family members and fans were moved to tears as the veteran actress was brought to her final resting place, with her children, grandchildren, and loved ones expressing deep sorrow during the solemn farewell.
Ian De Leon, son of the late Nora Aunor, also expressed gratitude to everyone who shared in their family's grief and honored the memory of their beloved mother.
“On behalf sa aming pamilya, thank you. Sa mga kapatid ko, sa mga anak namin, sa mga apo ni mommy, hindi niyo po alam kung gaano rin namin po kayo kamahal dahil sa pagmamahal niyo na binigay niyo sa mommy namin po,” Ian De Leon said.
“Siya lang ang nag-iisang ‘superstar’ dahil sa inyong lahat. Nagkaroon ng isang National Artist po dahil sa inyong lahat,” he added.
Joining the final farewell to Nora Aunor were fellow artists from the industry, such as Iza Calzado, Imelda Papin, Robin Padilla, and Philip Salvador.
Loyal “Noranians” made the long journey from different parts of the country—among them Bulacan, Pampanga, Cavite, and Tarlac—to bid farewell to their idol for the last time.
