Outgoing Sorsogon Governor Chiz Escudero on Friday said the local government has no plans on putting the entire province under a state of calamity following the eruption of the Bulusan Volcano over the weekend.

In a press briefing, Escudero said the provincial government has enough funds to attend to the needs of their constituents who were affected by the aftermath of the phreatic eruption last Sunday.

"Hindi pa nagagalaw ang calamity fund ng lalawigan. Pero wala kaming balak magdeklara ng state of calamity, hindi naman kailangan dahil dalawang barangay lang ang talaga apektado," he said.

[We haven't used the calamity fund. We don't have any plans to declare a state of calamity since only two barangays were affected.]

Escudero added that the LGU will provide food packs to residents affected, as well as those who help in removing volcanic ash from homes and public areas.

Alert Level 1 has been raised over Bulusan Volcano after its phreatic eruption on Sunday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).

In a bulletin, PHIVOLCS said the phreatic eruption that occurred at 10:37 a.m. lasted approximately 17 minutes and was recorded by the seismic and infrasound monitoring by the Bulusan Volcano Network (BVN).

The Office of the Vice President (OVP) on Sunday also extended help to the families affected by the eruption.
