MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) confirmed that there are no reported Filipino casualties or injuries in the magnitude 6.0 earthquake that struck eastern Afghanistan on 31 August 2025.
“As of this time, there are no reports of Filipino casualties or injuries. No Filipino nationals are known to be in evacuation centers, and no evacuation orders have been issued,” the DFA said in a statement.
The DFA also mentioned that the Philippine Embassy in Islamad, which has jurisdiction over Afghanistan, is currently aware of seven Filipino nationals in Afghanistan, all of whom are based in or around Kabul, and none are located in Jalalabad or Nangarhar Province.
The earthquake’s epicenter was located approximately 27 kilometers northeast of Jalalabad, reports said.
“The Embassy has established contact with several Filipino nationals in Kabul and continues efforts to verify the welfare and status of the remaining individuals,” the DFA stated.
According to the Department, the provinces of Kunar, Nangarhar, and Laghman in Afghanistan appear to be the most severely affected and access to these areas is currently complicated by road blockages due to landslides and difficult terrain, which are impacting the speed of humanitarian assistance.
Meanwhile, the Philippine Embassy in Islamabad will continue to monitor the situation closely by coordinating with Afghan authorities and issue a follow-up advisory should developments require, the DFA stated.
