LGUs suspend classes on Aug. 28 due to Typhoon Goring

Several local government units (LGUs) have announced a class suspension for Tuesday, August 29, the opening of School Year 2023-2024, due to the heavy rain and rain-induced flood brought by Typhoon Goring.

CAGAYAN

Cagayan Governor Manuel Mamba released Executive Order (EO) No. 14 suspending classes at all levels in both private and public schools in Cagayan province.

Under EO No. 14 daed August 28, Mamba said the class cancellation was recommended by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management (PDRRMC) in a bid to ensure public safety and convenience amidst the reported flooding in several areas in the province.

"Classes on all levels in public and private schools in the Province of Cagayan are hereby suspended on August 29, 2023," the Cagayan Governor said.

STA. CRUZ, OCCIDENTAL MINDORO

In a Facebook post, Mayor Ernie Torreliza announced that classes in both private and public schools are suspended in Santa Cruz in Occidental Mindoro due to inclement weather caused by the enhanced southwest monsoon.

RIZAL

Mayor Ernesto 'Sonny' Pablo also declared suspension in classes at all levels in private and public schools and government offices in Rizal.

"Ito ay dahil sa patuloy na pagsama ng panahon at inaasahang pagbaha. Mag-iingat tayo kababayan. Hindi tayo imortal," he said.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 remains hoisted in the northern and eastern portions of mainland Cagayan, according to the 11 AM update of PAGASA.

Typhoon Goring has affected a total of 2,302 families or 7,919 individuals in the Ilocos region, Cagayan Valley, and Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported.

Of the total, 538 families or 1,948 individuals are taking shelter inside 53 evacuation centers.
