There are no cases of COVID-19 among inmates or persons deprived of liberty (PDL) for the past three weeks now in the New Bilibid Prison (NBP), according to a spokesperson from the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor)

Gabriel Chaclag told DZRH in an interview that the only cases of COVID-19 at the NBP involve two personnel.

"Dito ngayon, wala na kaming cases of COVID-19 sa inmates o persons deprived of liberty. Ang meron lang po tayong case ng COVID-19 ngayon ay sa ating personnel na dalawa at moderate case po sila hanggang ngayon," he said.

According to Chaclag, the zero-case situation in NBP among inmates has been going on for three weeks now, thanks to the intervention of the facility's health service.

"Nakikita natin na maganda yung intervention ng ating health service kaya po mababa ang rate at wala talagang case ng COVID-19 dito sa ating PDL for the past three weeks at sana mamaintain natin 'yun," he added.

(We can see that the intervention of our health service is good, which is why we have low and no cases of COVID-19 among PDLs for the past three weeks. I hope we can maintain this.)

Meanwhile, Chaclag said the bureau is extending its gratitude to the national government for also including PDLs in its vaccination program.

"Patuloy rin ang aming vaccination program. Nagpapasalamat tayo sa national government at isinama nila po ang PDLs sa Bureau of Corrections," he said.

(Our vaccination program is still ongoing. We would like to thank the national government for including PDLs in the Bureau of Corrections.)

Data from the facility as of November 19 revealed that 22,134 PDLs or 78% of the 28,516 inmates are already vaccinated. Overall, 37,513 or 77.28% out of 48,539 PDLs have received the jabs.
