The Malacañang Palace on Monday, Aug. 29, announced that President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. has not yet appointed chief of the Bureau of Immigrations (BI).
Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles released the statement following reports that a copy of the formal appointment letter to Abraham G. Espejo Jr. has been circulating on social media.
Espejo was a former dean of the College of Law of the New Era University and former lawyer of former president Joseph "Erap" Estrada.
Cruz-Angeles said her office has confirmed with the Presidential Management Staff (PMS) that no document for the said position has been issued.
The PMS is an attached agency to the Palace which conducts complete staff work on such appointments. It also manages the development and formulation of the projects and policies of the Office of the President.
Justice Secretary Jesus "Boying" Crispin Remulla recently nominated two lawyers to Marcos.
He named Joel Viado to be the next head of the BI, and Gerry Sirios to lead the Land Registration Authority (LRA).
