The Senate Blue Ribbon Committee has postponed its scheduled hearing on the appearance of former Ilocos Sur governor Luis 'Chavit' Singson in connection with the controversial flood control projects, the panel’s chairman said Thursday.
Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo Lacson announced that the hearing set for April 14 has been canceled after Singson failed to submit a sworn affidavit detailing his testimony.
Lacson said the committee could not proceed without Singson’s affidavit, which is expected to outline his claims regarding alleged irregularities in flood control projects, particularly in the Ilocos region.
The senator added that the postponement was also due to the lack of sufficient signatures on the committee’s partial report on the alleged anomalies. At least five more committee members are needed to sign the report before it can be presented to the Senate plenary.
Lacson said the panel may reschedule the hearing once Singson submits at least a draft of his affidavit and the required number of signatures on the report is secured.
Initial information indicated that Singson was expected to discuss issues surrounding flood control projects in the Ilocos region. However, no specific individuals have been publicly identified by the former governor as being involved in the alleged controversy.
Lawmakers and observers are awaiting the submission of Singson’s affidavit, which is seen as crucial in determining the direction of the committee’s inquiry.
