The National Housing Authority (NHA) has ordered the relocation of 40 families who got displaced after a big tree collapsed and hit houses along the Estero de Magdalena, Manila.
In an interview with the media on Friday, NHA General Manager Joeben Tai said he directed NHA West Sector officer-in-charge Daniel Cocjin to contact the local government of Manila to immediately process the relocation of the families.
“As soon as possible ang instruction ko sa ating mga tao sa ground na irelocate na po sila, this is a wake up call for us to the NHA na i-relocate po ang mga kababayan namin na nakatira along the danger areas and waterways,” he said.
NHA vowed to provide houses located in Rizal and Cavite for the affected families.
On Thursday, May 18, a Balete tree fell due to continuous rain, causing houses adjacent to collapse.
Three individuals died including a two-year-old child while nine others reportedly sustained injuries.
The families of the slain individuals and injured have received immediate assistance.
Interior Secretary Benjamin ‘Benhur’ Abalos Jr. has already tapped the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) to investigate the cause behind the collapsed tree.
