The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has announced that Luzon grid will be under red and yellow alerts, and Visayas grid under yellow alert on Tuesday, April 16, due to outages in several power plants.
In an advisory posted on Facebook, NGCP said the yellow alert in the Luzon grid will take effect from 1 PM to 2 PM, 4 PM to 6 PM, and 9 PM to 11 PM.
Luzon grid will be placed on red alert from 2 PM to 4 PM and 6 PM to 9 PM.
"Nineteen (19) power plants are on forced outage, while three (3) others are running on derated capacities, for a total of 2,117.3MW unavailable to the grid," NGCP noted.
In a separate advisory, the agency said the yellow alert status in the Visayas grid will last from 2 PM to 4 PM and 6 PM to 7 PM.
"Twelve (12) power plants are on forced outage, while five (5) others are running on derated capacities, for a total of 676.5MW unavailable to the grid," it said.
The NGCP will carry out manual load dropping (MLD) while the alerts are raised.
As explained by Nueva Ecija 1 Electric Cooperative, Inc. (NEECO I), MLD is done through “rotational brownout."
