The Department of Health (DOH) has recorded two more cases of mpox, with one case reported in the National Capital Region (NCR) and another in Calabarzon. This raises the total case count to 14, with 5 cases still active.

The 13th reported case of mpox is a 26-year-old female from NCR, whose symptoms, including rashes on her face and back and a fever, started on August 20. After consulting at an outpatient clinic, the patient was instructed to isolate at home.

Authorities discovered that she had two close contacts, who have been identified and notified. Neither of the contacts showed symptoms.

Case 14 of mpox is a 12-year-old male from Calabarzon. His symptoms started with a fever on August 10, followed by rashes on his face, legs, trunk, and pubic area, which then spread to other parts of his body.

According to the DOH, the patient also had a cough and swollen lymph nodes in the groin area. He is currently recovering at home and is under close observation by local health authorities.

Both additional cases had no history of travel in the three weeks before their symptoms appeared.

According to the DOH, both cases are identified as mpox clade II, the milder variant, which is consistent with earlier reports of local transmission. Verification of the details concerning skin-to-skin contact is still ongoing.

As of today, the country has recorded a total of 14 mpox cases since July 14, 2022. Nine of these cases have fully recovered as of 2023, while five remain active and are currently receiving treatment for their symptoms.
