The inauguration of the Mega Manufacturing Plant in Barangay 4 was led by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and Batangas Governor Hermilando Mandanas on Wednesday.
More than 1,000 people from the city and surrounding towns are now employed at a manufacturing plant that was formally opened.
The company is well-known for its sardine, tuna, and canned fruits and vegetables brands.
According to Jenny Aguilera, provincial public information officer, the plant began operations late last year, employing over a thousand Batangueos in various stages of food processing.
Mandanas thanked the people behind Mega Prime Foods Inc. for their investment in their province, which he described as a "well-chosen location" in his speech at the event.
He described Batangas as "the gateway of the Philippine agro-industrial corridor" and a component of the Southeast Asian logistics hub network.
Mega Prime Foods Inc. broke ground on the manufacturing plant in 2020, investing PHP 1 billion in total.
In a statement released by the company during the inauguration, the plant has cutting-edge and state-of-the-art facilities that incorporate advanced and energy-efficient light sources to minimize its carbon footprint.
Meanwhile, Batangas 3rd District Representative Ma. Theresa Collantes, Sto. Tomas Mayor Arth Jhun Marasigan, AnaKalusugan Party-list Rep. Ray Florence Reyes, Lian Vice Mayor Ronin Leviste, Batangas City Councilor Andrea Macaraig, and other local officials were also present during the occasion.
