Nine Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) were injured in a commotion at New Bilibid Prison's (NBP)Maximum Security Compound on July 24.
The clash started between two PDLs near the Batang Cebu Chapel in Brgy. Sto. Niño, at around 9:02 pm, creating a tense atmosphere within the prison facility.
Initial investigations revealed that the PDLs belonged to opposing groups, fueled by an unresolved grudge that led to the unexpected encounter.
Despite momentarily settling their dispute, one individual, believed to be a fervent supporter of one group, drew an unidentified firearm and fired indiscriminately, causing injuries to several PDLs in the vicinity.
In response, the Bureau of Correction (BuCor) SWAT Team and other personnel swiftly arrived to control the situation.
Nine injured PDLs were urgently taken to NBP-Hospital for medical treatment, with two transported by 9:45 pm, five shortly after, and two more around 10:15 pm.
Further, during the clearing operation, investigators recovered a .45 caliber firearm, two magazines, and 12 rounds of ammunition at the altercation site.
