Filipina boxer Nesthy Petecio will continue to fight for greatness as she advances to the quarterfinals of the 57kg division of women’s boxing in the 2024 Paris Olympics after defeating France's Amina Zidani in the round of 16 on Saturday (Manila time).

The 32-year-old Filipina boxer secured the majority decision, with four judges scoring the match in her favor.

Zidani came with the upper hand in the first round, utilizing agility and height advantage, making it hard for the PH bet to strategize the next move.

The Tokyo Olympics silver medalist managed to remain calm and throw scorching combinations of punches amidst the roaring cheers in the North Paris Arena.

Determined to clinch another victory that leads to the quarterfinal round, Petecio aggressively edges home bet with power punches eventually claiming the subsequent rounds.

The Pinay executed a sweeping right hook in the second round that made Zidani lose her balance, causing both gloves to hit the canvas. Despite this, the referee did not deem it a knockdown.

Petecio sustained her outstanding performance and kept putting pressure on her opponent in the third round, ultimately winning.

She showcased her excellent footwork and notable strength, thwarting the French foe’s attempt to bounce back.

Anticipating a win, Zidani was stunned when Petecio was announced as the match's victor.

Advancing to the quarterfinals, Petecio will face head-on China's Zichun Xu on August 4 (Manila time).

Alongside Petecio in the quest for an Olympic medal are Aira Villegas and Carlo Paalam, who are also just one win away from securing a guaranteed bronze.
