Chito Miranda, lead vocalist of the band Parokya ni Edgar, has broken his silence regarding the arrest of his wife, actress and entrepreneur Neri Naig, who is facing charges of estafa and violation of the Securities Regulation Code.
The arrest, which reportedly took place on November 23 in Pasay City, was first revealed in a YouTube vlog by talent manager Ogie Diaz.
In a social media post, Miranda strongly defended his wife, describing her as a good person who goes out of her way to help others. He explained that Naig was merely an endorser for a skincare company called "DermaCare", which allegedly used her image as a model to attract investors.
"Never nanloko si Neri, at never sya nanlamang sa kapwa. Never siyang kumuha or nanghingi ng pera kahit kanino man. Alam ng lahat yan. Tulong lang sya ng tulong hangga't kaya nya. Minsan kahit di na nakakabuti sa kanya," Miranda captioned the post with photos of her wife helping people.
According to Miranda, Naig was charged by alleged victims without receiving any subpoena or prior notice.
He criticized the authorities for detaining Naig without bail while the alleged real perpetrators remain free.
"Tulad ngayon, endorser lang sya tapos ginamit yung face nya to get investors. Kinasuhan sya ng mga nabiktima. Tapos last week, bigla na lang syang inaresto for the same case kahit hindi pa sya binigyan ng notice na may bagong criminal complaint pala laban sa kanya, and di nya na-defend yung sarili nya," Miranda furthered.
The Southern Police District (SPD) earlier reported that it arrested a 41-year-old actress and businesswoman, alias "Erin," at a convention center in a mall in Pasay City on Saturday.
According to SPD, Naig was listed as the 7th most wanted person at the station level due to 14 counts of violating the Securities Regulation Code with recommended bail of P126,000 for each count.
