On Wednesday, the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Board approved the Department of Health's (DOH) initiative titled “Philippines: Health System Resilience Project, Phase 1,” which aims to enhance the resilience of the country's health system.
The program aims to improve health emergency prevention, preparedness, and response in vulnerable areas across the country.
This initiative has a total cost of PhP27.921 billion and will target regions with limited healthcare access. The DOH selected 17 provinces for the pilot implementation.
NEDA Chair President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. expressed his support for the DOH program, highlighting the lessons learned from the previous pandemic. Additionally, he noted that the project aims to address the gaps identified during the global health emergency.
“Maganda ito kasi specific to the Philippines. It’s not a general (it is) specific even to the area,” Marcos told Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Teodoro Herbosa while presenting the project during the NEDA Board Meeting at Malacañang Palace.
He further stated that the program will help rebuild a resilient health system, aligning with the vision set forth in the Philippine Development Plan 2023-2028.
