The government has provided a total of PHP 71.5 million worth of assistance to families affected by the Mayon Volcano's continuous unrest.

In an update Monday, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) noted that the amount includes cash as well as other types of assistance such as water, food, varied tents, hygiene kits, and other supplies.

As of June 16, the number of affected families has increased to 10,146, up from 9,947.

These families equate to 38,961 people living in the 26 barangays in Bicol Region.

Of this total, 5,466 families, or 18,892 people, are being served in 28 evacuation centers, with the remainder being assisted outside or sheltering with relatives and friends.

NDRRMC said that all of these figures are subject to change whenever confirmations are received.
