The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Saturday asked President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. to place the country under a national state of calamity for one year due to the impact of Severe Tropical Storm Paeng onslaught.
During a situational briefing, NDRRMC Executive Director and Office of Civil Defense administrator Raymundo Ferrer reported that their pre-disaster risk assessment found that 16 out of 17 regions are at “high risk“.
He said 25 out of 64 provinces within the diameter of Paeng are assessed as “high risk“.
“With this po Mr. President, the NDRRMC respectfully recommends for the following: declare a national state of calamity due to the effects, damage, and projected impacts by Severe Tropical Storm Paeng for one year, unless earlier lifted,“ said.
“And to accept offers of international assistance based on needs,“ he added.

Marcos said he would wait for the proposal and review it first.
“Sabagay, madaming regions ang affected, that would already justify a state of calamity. Sige, let me wait for your resolution. Titignan ko. It looks like especially Region 5, BARMM is going to be put under a state of calamity, kahit yun lang muna,“ he said.
The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) was placed under a state of calamity amid landslides and massive floodings, Chief Minister Ahod Ebrahim announced on Saturday afternoon.
