The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) expects that at least 1,000 individuals will take shelter at evacuation centers in Cagayan due to the effects of Typhoon Neneng.
As of Sunday, October 16, NDRRMC reported that the 960 individuals pre-emptively evacuated.
Office of Civil Defense Asec. Raffy Alejandro, spokesperson of the NDRRMC, mentioned that Typhoon Neneng has the same track as Tropical Depression Maymay, which displaced up to 1,016 individuals.
"Nung nakaraan bagyo, umabot tayo sa halos 35,000 yung total affected population at umabot ng almost 1,000 yung nasa evacuation center," Alejandro explained during DZRH's Maynila Ito Ang Pilipinas.
"Since para halos parehas yung track, we expect the same communities to be affected," he added.
The NDRRMC official said that the evacuees came from areas prone to landslides and flash floods.
Alejandro assured that the NDRRMC has yet to record any fatalities but vehicles can no longer pass through three bridges in Cagayan due to the heavy rains.
He also said that the NDRRMC still has communication with the regional offices of the agency, and with local government units.
"Communications wise, maganda at wala pang problema. Tuloy-tuloy ang aming communication sa aming regional offices, sa mga LGU. Hopefully, tuloy-tuloy sa buong araw," Alejandrro said.
"May back-up communications tayo. Nandiyan yung UHF, VHF radios na naka-standby. Yung sat phones, at iba pang kagamitan natin ay naka-ready," he further assured.
Alejandro added that the NDRRMC, Philippine Coast Guard, Philippine Navy, the Bureau of Fire Protection, the Philippine National Police, and local responders continue to conduct disaster response operations in the affected areas.
