The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) has created an El Niño team that will be in charge to monitor the impacts of the dry season that is expected to be experienced by the end of 2023 until the first quarter of 2024.
According to Civil Defense (OCD) Spokesperson Raffy Alejandro, the team will be headed by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
The members will be comprised of the following government agencies:
- Department of Agriculture (DA)
- Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)
- Department of Energy (DOE), Department of Health (DOH)
- Department of Science and Technology (DOST)
- Office of Civil Defense (OCD)
- National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA)
- National Irrigation Administration (NIA), at Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS)
Meanwhile, the Presidential Communications Office (PCO), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), National Water Resources Board (NWRB), and Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) will serve as the support group of the El Niño team.
The El Niño team was created in accordance with the order of President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr.
