The number of people who died due to Typhoon Odette has climbed to 397 with 83 still missing and 1,147 injured, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (NDRRMC) said Tuesday.

Of the total fatalities, the NDRRMC situational report stated that only 59 have been confirmed with 37 of it from Region 6 Western Visayas. Meanwhile, only eight missing persons and 74 injured were also confirmed.

During the Palace briefing, NDRRMC chief Undersecretary Ricardo Jalad said most of the fatalities were due to drowning while some died after getting hit by uprooted trees, trapped under the debris of collapsed infrastructures, and getting buried by landslides.

He added that most affected areas were Palawan, Negros Occidental, Bohol, Cebu, Negros Oriental, Southern Leyte, Leyte, Dinagat Islands, and Surigao del Norte.

At least 508,785 houses were damaged, with 341,368 partially and 167,417 totally, according to Jalad.

The total worth of damage in infrastructure also rose to PHP 16,715,334,982 while PHP 5,342,538,557 in agriculture.

Power supply has already been restored to 161 of 284 cities and municipalities that encountered power service interruption due to the typhoon.

Meanwhile, water supply has been restored in only one of the 18 cities and municipalities that reported water supply interruption.
