The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) keeps a close eye on Mayon Volcano in Albay, and Bulusan Volcano in Sorsogon.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) placed Bulusan Volcano under Alert Level 1 on Wednesday, October 12, after observing an increase in volcanic activities.
On Friday, October 7, PHIVOLCS also raised the alert status of Mayon Volcano from Level 1 to Level 2.
Asec. Raffy Alejandro, spokesperson of the NDRRMC, assured on Thursday, October 13, that PHIVOLCS, Office of Civil Defense - Bicol Region, and the concerned local government units have activated their contingency plans as per protocol.
"So far wala pang movement diyan, walang evacuation kasi walang required intervention at this time," the NDRRMC official said during DZRH's Magandang Umaga Pilipinas.
"Ito nga closed monitoring tayo kasi, kahit ganoon, itong dalawang bulkan pwedeng magkaroon ng phreatic eruption anytime," he added.
Alejandro said that the government will immediately enforce an evacuation in communities near the two volcanoes if the volcanic activities will continue to escalate and PHIVOLCS will further raise the alert level status.
