Taeyong of the K-pop megaband NCT has officially debuted as a soloist with his first album 'SHALALA' and the music video with the same title.
On Monday, the NCT and NCT 127 leader dropped his seven-track mini album "SHALALA" — a hip-hop song that carries Taeyong's witty rap lyrics and an addictive chorus. The song conveys the confident message that “we can all shine anywhere we are.”
Other songs on the EP are "Gwando," "Move Mood Mode" featuring Wendy of girl group Red Velvet, "Virtual Insanity," "Ruby," "404 File Not Found" and "Back to the Past."
Shortly after his debut, Taeyong's 'SHALALA' was able to hit No. 1 on the iTunes Top Albums charts in at least 30 different regions, including Brazil, Mexico, Chile, France, India, Spain, Russia, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, and more.
Likewise, the EP also topped the Worldwide iTunes Album charts and reached No. 1 on QQ Music’s Digital Album Sales chart in China.
Furthermore, the album’s title track of the same name “SHALALA” has soared to No. 1 on the iTunes Top Songs charts in 14 different regions around the world including Chile, Brazil, Dominican Republic, and Indonesia.
According to his label SM Entertainment, the 27-year-old singer-rapper "actively participated" in the album's production, from planning to writing the tracks.
Debuted in 2016, Taeyong is the leader of NCT and NCT 127, another sub-unit under the megaband. In 2019, he became a part of SuperM, consisting of members from different boy bands under SM.
