The number of stray bullet incidents and firecracker-related injuries across Metro Manila significantly dropped during the recent Christmas and New Year celebrations.
The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) reported a 28% reduction in firecracker injuries and a 50% decline in stray bullet cases during the holiday season.
Furthermore, the intensified police operations against illegal firecrackers resulted in an unprecedented 1,386% growth in confiscated items compared to 2023.
Three cases of indiscriminate firing were noted by authorities; however, the names of those involved have not been disclosed.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) earlier reported 27 cases of indiscriminate firing across the country, resulting in injuries to six individuals.
As of the latest report, three arrests were made for indiscriminate firing, nine individuals were detained for using or selling banned firecrackers, and 790,400 units of illegal firecrackers were confiscated.
