The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) has been placed under full alert status starting Saturday, February 21, in preparation for the third Trillion Peso March and the commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the EDSA People Power on February 25.
According to a report at RH Balita, aired by reporter Jacky Recio, NCRPO spokesperson Hazel Asilo said the full alert status would take effect at 5:00 p.m. to ensure public safety during the scheduled activities.
Nearly 11,000 police personnel will be deployed to key areas, particularly along routes where protest actions and related gatherings are expected to take place.
Authorities said they are currently not monitoring any specific security threats in connection with the upcoming events.
The NCRPO, however, emphasized that heightened security measures are being implemented as a precaution to maintain peace and order throughout the anniversary celebration and protest activities.
"Para sa mga threats, wala po tayong namo-monitor na mga banta pero patuloy naman 'yung ginagawa natin na pakikipag-ugnayan sa ating other intel agencies para ma-sure natin na lagi tayong nakahanda in case meron mga eventualities," Asilo said during a press briefing at Camp Crame on Wednesday.
In line with this, several universities, colleges, and schools across the country have announced class suspensions on February 25, in observance of the 40th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution.
