Metro Manila mayors have agreed to scrap the mandatory use of face shields in public except in 'critical areas' such as hospitals and public transportations, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chair Benhur Abalos said on Monday.
In an interview, MMDA chair Benhur Abalos said the decision stemmed from the suggestion of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) regarding the optional use of face shields.
The announcement came hours after Manila Mayor Isko Moreno released an executive order mandating the wearing of face shields is now non-mandatory in the city.
Under the said order, the wearing of face shields will remain mandatory in hospital settings, medical clinics, and other medical facilities.
"The wearing of face shield in the City of Manila is non-mandatory except in hospital setting, medical clinics, and other medical facilities, which shall remain to be mandatory," Moreno said.
Metro Manila has recently shifted to Alert Level 2 from November 5 until November 21.
