The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Medico Legal team on Tuesday revealed that the bones retrieved inside the septic tank at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City are likely to be chicken bone and not human bone.
During the public hearing of the Senate Committee on Justice and Human Rights, NBI medico-legal officer Annalyne Dadiz said the bone has gone through the process of forensic identification.
"Through this process, we made use of elimination and comparison, and we concluded that this is not of human origin, your honor," she added.
Dadiz said the bone was retrieved along with male underwear, a lighter, and a razor.
"It is combined with solid waste. It is found on the first chamber [of the septic tank]," she added.
When asked about the origin of the bone, Dadiz answered that "In all likelihood, through the process of comparison, it is consistent with chicken leg bone."
Last July 25, authorities found the decapitated body of a missing prisoner inside a septic tank at the NBP.
Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla first claimed that the retrieved remains belonged to Michael Cataroja, an NBP prisoner who had been missing since July 15.
But just last August 4, Remulla clarified that the department lacks any information regarding the identity of the decapitated body discovered.
