The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) arrested a Swedish national in Angeles City, Pampanga, for his alleged involvement in child sexual abuse crimes.
Operatives from the NBI's Violence Against Women and Children Division (NBI-VAWCD), in coordination with the Bureau of Immigration's Fugitive Search Unit (BI-FSU), successfully apprehended the suspect on Wednesday, April 2.
NBI stated that the case originated from information provided by the Swedish Police Authority (SPA) through Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) regarding a suspected Swedish child sexual offender.
The individual is the subject of SPA investigation for 2 counts of “Rape of a Child” and was previously suspected of the rape of 10-year-old child in his home country in 2021.
In addition, the individual has prior convictions for serious financial fraud, having been sentenced in 2009 and 2003.
The individual is said to have arrived in the Philippines on March 18 of this year. His case was then referred to the NBI-VAWCD on March 25 for further investigation.
NBI-VAWCD agents promptly headed to Angeles City, Pampanga, to monitor the situation. On March 29, the subject was spotted at the Ambassador Suites in Angeles City.
On March 31, NBI-VAWCD was informed by SPA that an arrest warrant had been issued by the Senior Prosecutor in Sweden for the subject.
The charges include Rape of a Child, Preparation to Rape a Child (Chapter 6, Section 4), Gross Sexual Assault of a Child (Chapter 6, Section 6), and Child Pornography Offense (Chapter 16, Section 10a), all under the Swedish Criminal Code.
Furthermore, the subject's passport has been revoked by SPA, as he is now a wanted individual in Sweden.
