The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has expressed impatience over the issuance of an arrest warrant against government contractor Sarah Discaya in connection with the ₱96.5-million ghost flood control projects in Davao Occidental.
According to NBI spokesperson Palmer Mallari, while the public may be anxious about the case, the bureau feels even more urgency, as this is not the only case they are handling.
RH Jecelle Ricafort reported on dzRH's Damdaming Bayan that Mallari said that they follow up almost daily to expedite the process and ensure the arrest warrant is served.
The spokesperson added that once the arrest warrant is issued, Discaya will immediately undergo booking, and her medical condition will be evaluated by the medico-legal team.
The spokesperson also clarified that the bureau has "no choice" but to comply with court orders regarding the transfer of Discaya to another detention facility.
Mallari explained that if Discaya wishes to return home before an arrest warrant is issued, the NBI cannot prevent it. However, he noted that it would make the arresting team’s task more difficult if she were no longer in their custody.
He further mentioned that Discaya has reportedly withdrawn any request to go home or see her family for the time being.
Discaya attended preliminary investigations at the Malabon City Prosecutor’s Office regarding the case filed by the City Hall regarding the alleged lack of permits for demolition and construction by the Discaya company on a city-owned property.
After the hearing at 1:00 p.m., she was returned to NBI custody, where she currently remains.
