The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) confiscated more than P74 million worth of fake batteries, chargers, and other gadget accessories in a warehouse in Quiapo, Manila.

According to NBI-National Capital Region (NCR) Director Atty. Rommel Vallejo, they obtained the search warrant with the cellphone company to authenticate the products by checking the serial number and packaging of the item.

Vallejo said that many fire accidents have been determined to be caused by charger and battery explosions because they are counterfeit.

As such, the owner of the warehouse will be charged with trademark infringement, a violation under the Intellectual Property Rights Law.
