The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) concluded its investigation into Vice President (VP) Sara Duterte's assassination threat against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., Prosecutor General Richard Anthony Fadullon said in a press briefing on Monday.
"We were informed already that the NBI finished its investigation, but there is a need to further evaluate it. We are sending prosecutors over to look at the evidence, [and] to evaluate the evidence that is in the custody of the National Bureau of Investigation,” he said.
Depending on the investigation's outcome, the National Prosecution Service (NPS) will have to recommend whether the VP's case should be filed before the Department of Justice (DOJ) or returned to the NBI for further buildup.
Fadullon also mentioned that the NBI and the DOJ are working closely together to ascertain the evidence they have on hand.
Meanwhile, DOJ Undersecretary Raul Vasquez stated that once the evaluation is deemed to be enough to warrant preliminary investigation, the investigation proper will be initiated.
“Once the evaluation is confirmed to be enough to warrant preliminary investigation, that’s the time that the preliminary investigation proper will be initiated,” Vasquez said.
In an online press briefing in November 2024, VP Duterte made headlines after claims on being in contact with a hitman to target Marcos, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez were made, if she were to die.
