The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) launched a probe into the widespread blackout that occured in the island of Panay, its spokesperson Cynthia Alabanza said on Thursday, January 4.
In an interview during DZRH's Dos Por Dos, Alabanza said that they are still waiting for the report on why six power plants simultaneously failed that resulted to a widespread brownout in the Western Visayas.
It was January 2, 12 noon. #DosPorDos#SamaSamaTayoPilipino

The NGCP spokesperson cited that about 70% of the electricity in Panay Island was lost, which could not be supplied by the remaining power plants.
She said that no signs could dictate the main cause of the said blackout.
According to Alabanza, there are indications that the power plants would gradually go online and increase the generation of electricity today.
In a report by Aine Garce Bravo, a massive power outage unexpectedly hit cities in Panay Island and its neighboring provinces, including as Guimaras Island and Negros at around 2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 2.
