Manila International Airport Authority reported that there was no congestion at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) due to the high on-time performance (OTP) of flights arriving and departing from its four terminals during the Holy Week rush.
According to MIAA's General Manager Cesar Chiong, the airport's high OTP ratings show that flights consistently depart and arrive on time, which helps to prevent passenger crowding at the airport.
"Our high OTP ratings indicate that flights depart from and arrive at NAIA on time. This demonstrates that we can prevent passenger crowding at the airport due to the continuous dispatch, departure, and arrival of flights. Queuing also has become manageable," he said.
As of April 5, MIAA recorded 583,007 passengers with the total number of commercial flights that arrived and departed from NAIA now at 3,675.
The OTP ranged from 81% to 91% from Holy Monday to Holy Wednesday, which meets global standards of 80% and above.
MIAA expects another surge of passengers during Easter Sunday and when people are starting to go back home after the long vacation.
Meanwhile, airport officials attribute the success to the coordination among agencies such as the airlines, ground handlers, and various government agencies working at NAIA, including the Bureau of Immigration and the Office for Transportation Security.
